Compost Records` legendary compilation series The Future Sounds Of Jazz looks back on a long and all-around appreciated history!
The first edition was released back in 1994 and has its 10th volume out by now! All together an organic collection which changed its face over the years, just like underground music itself. And as we look back, we notice that a few years ago there was a somewhat different main focus to it. It was and still is a mirror of futuristic sounds and tunes, of Latin sounds covered in Downbeat- Electro or Hip Hop but time also modified the layers of modern music.
See more hybrid forms with Techno and other extrasensory perceptions. Listen to it and youll feel the freshness. This is definitely one of the strongest selections in a long time; Compost Records moves on to reach and explore new fields and artists in the wide dance music spectrum. All in all, it´s more diffuse, electronic material which never lost its soul nor spirit.
Here we got twelve extraordinary tracks selected by Michael Reinboth. This time MR and Beanfield (Michael Mettke and Jan Krause) did a real good job by crossfading those tracks together for a ultimate listening enjoyment!
Take it or leave it!
About the artists and tracks:
Fred Everything feat. The New Mastersounds Elevate Maurice Fulton Remix
Both are well-known luminaries, Fred Everything is more into the funky Tech-House stuff on the 20/20 Vison Label and Maurice Fulton (MU on Output / Gigolo / Tigersushi), well known as Michael Reinboth`s alltime and longtime fave, has the honour to contribute two tracks (see Syclops) on this FSOJ.
Povo Uam Uam Moonstarr Remix
Anthem alert! The Copenhagen-based jazzers finally return with an afro-inspired jazz dancer which nobody else than Canadian producer Moonstarr did his possibly best remix on. Exclusive upfront CD pressure has already been in circulation resulting in keen support from cats like Gilles Peterson, Nicola Conte, Danny Krivit, Jazzanova & Rainer Trüby who are currently hammering it. Don´t sleep! This baby is huuuuuggge!
Ricardo Villalobos Fools Garden (Black Conga)
Deep analogue techno-producer, -DJ and globetrotter Ricardo Villalobos from Playhouse / Perlon Rec.
adds this tight track, which wasn´t released on his last two albums. So be surprised: Brian Eno & David Byrne meet Detroit.
Hot Chip Playboy
The surprise vanquishers. You may think about David Sylvian and Mick Kam (both Japan) soloworks. Others would claim this was Prince mashed up with The Beta Band and The Beach Boys...insane? Whatever, those boys got the BBC Talent 2004 Award which they really deserved. Unbelievable Pop!
Per Cussion Manhatten Jungle
This is an old track of a Swedish guy which was released in the 80s on Fog in Frankfurt. Electro- / streetbeats with slices of Latin and Brass.
Syclops Fairlight Sunrise
Yes! Maurice Fulton hitting again with an extra portion of cool Boogie. Techy plastic boogie like this is surely something really rare and just a few people like Metro Area, Daniel Wang or Morgan Geist can reach that level.
Gabriel Ananda Süssholz Ben Mono´s Low Level Remix
Michael Reinboth played this Techno smasher at 33 rpm instead of 45, mixing squeesy sounds into it. This uptempo version was a big hit in fall ´04 (Groove charts No. 1 also featured in djs playlists including Sven Väth`s) but to MR it wa a bit too nervous and speedy, like too little vodka and too much Red Bull. He asked artist, label Treibstoff and Compost act Ben Mono to bring the 33s version to a better shape and here it is and takes it all away!
Metaboman Role For Kale
The guy with the driller is a gifted DJ and producer and his contribution to FSOJ Vol. 10 is madness, deepness with a nice (pro)portion of musical delight. "Dankeschön" to Musik Krause and Freude Am Tanzen. We enjoy listening!
Origami First Note
Brand new, freshly licensed and unreleased till now - the two Italians of Origami. Mashing their talent to come up with a great piece of European Nu Jazz Broken Beat Music. Latin Jazz Piano Samples getting together with awesome double bass lines 120bpm. Groovy.
Cal Tjader Los Banditos Michael Reinboth Remix
MRs own remix turns out a "keepin´ it real" connection between Latinjazz, adapted vibrations of the maestro of vibes Cal Tjader and all the rest till we arrive at Detoit Techno Airport. Reinboth promises to stay a while, extending things and pushing it across the Mexican border.
General Electrics Terms and Conditions Apply The Entity Remix
On his first album Cliquety Kliqk new Compost master blaster RV (Hervé Salters) destroys and rebuilds, strokes then ill-treats sounds and whoop there are radical collages of Hip Hop, electronic stuff and funk. Tru Thoughts think he sounds like the Beatles in a pub brawl with the Neptunes. Indeed. And coz we can´t get enough of his Clavinetz, Hammond and Rhodes we put a fresh previously unreleased remix of Terms and Conditions Apply on this FSOJ to let the grandmaster of keys play again, again and again...
Sebastian Tellier La Ritournelle
60s and 70s transformed into `05. Pop, Triphop deepness! "La Ritournelle" ranked #3 in Gilles Peterson`s Worldwide charts on the BBC. A simply wonderful crowning closure from the former AIR support.
