Black Label #6 Asia is making impact on Compost Release number six on Composts still young imprint, Black Label, brings you two new talents from Asia. To be exact: India and Japan. The latest instalment of the Black Label series starts with "Kholi Number". "Kholi" is Hindi and describes a room used for a special Indian dance, the so-called "Murja". "Murja" is a narrative form of dancing, which itself is wide spread throughout Asia. Whether you dance narrative or just for fun, "Kholi Number" is truly a track that is made for dancing. Murja, literally translated, means "rhythmic footwork". And thats what your feet will do, when your ears tell them to move to this jazzy, oriental monster track. "Kholi Number" is a track that relies heavily on trippy sounds and reminds of the glory days, when MoWax and TripHop still were fresh. Nikhil Ghia or Brahmasonic has a degree in liberal arts from the Ohio Wesley as well as a master degree in Business from the Bryant College, but was born and raised in India. Under the name Brahmasonic he has recently finished his first album, which is an extraordinary fusion between Indian Classical music, Jazz and modern electronic sounds. "Kholi Number" is his frist comercial release. On the flipside comes "Water Samba" is trippy experience somewhere between Jazz and Hip Hop. It begins with a clumsy Samba beat and ends with a phat sub bass. Techjazz at its best! Definitely a ride to enjoy. Keisuke was born in 1976 in Iwata, Japan not far from Osaka. His mother was a piano teacher so he had contact with music from very early days on. In the early 1990s Keisuke became infected with Hip Hop which led to his own Hip Hop crew. Ku-Ru-Ma-Ra-I-O-N soon became somewhat like local heroes in the Osaka area. Keisuke was doing the beats, his brother and friends rapped. Soon Keisuke also became interested in Abstract Hip Hop and electronic music.and while his crew did cease to exist in 2000, Keisuke was still doing abstract, electronic tracks. In 2002 he finally moved to Tokyo to intensify his musical output. |

Black Label #5 When Hip House originators get Flowerz from Hamburg "What drugs did I take, when doing this...? Or was it three litres of Space-Chai...ah nevermind" Michael Sauer (Electric Mojo / Fellmann & Louise) who is resident DJ at the Mojo Club Hamburg, one of the most respected clubs in Europe, and Matt Flores (Combination Rec. / Metrosoul, Düsseldorf) do share a lot of things. The both love young girlfriends, rumbustious jokes and tight beats. But its not only their love for women and music they share, they share also the latest Compost Black Label #5. The A-Side for example is a track by Michael Sauer and Matt Flores and remixed and twisted again by Matt Flores. Those two guys know how to share."All Tonight" is a nice piano driven house stomper. Featuring an irresistable bassline and a catchy hookline, this beauty will drag you to the floor. Resistance is futile! The AA-side is brotherly shared as well. But this time Michael Sauer runs dry as Matt Flores teams up with a true legend of house music: Tyree Cooper. No other than the man from Chicago, who is one of the pioneers of Acid House, the Tyree Cooper who invented by solo effort Hip House. An interesting combination, the inventor of Hip House meets one of Germanys busiest DrumnBass producers. The result is a phat Chicago house track with a slight Acid touch, "Close Life Off". Marginalia: Rainer Trüby and Peter Kruder already told us that both tracks kick ass! |

Swiss Pocket Electro Beats The fourth release on Compost's Black Label Vinyl series features two of the hottest producers from Switzerland. Cheese and chocolate are one thing now it's time for some precise electronic click-clacks, like a swiss clock.... The first track "Solaris" (Pascal Hahn & Minus 8 Rmx) comes from the international known DJ, producer and Remixer Robert Jan Meyer aka Minus 8. He has already released many well received 12 " and albums on labels like Inflammable, Higher Ground, Stereo Deluxe and of course Compost Records and published about 20 Compilations like "Science Fiction Jazz 1-8", "Batucada 1+2" and "Sound Of Summer" (with Stéphane Pompougnac). His Djing already took him to four continents and he moved the crowd on festivals like Amsterdam Dance Valley, Roskilde Euphoria and Montreux Jazz. On this remix from "Solaris" he worked together with the Zurich-based DJ Pascal Hahn, one of the co-founders of one of the most successful club-nights on Mondays in Europe, the "Cool Monday" (average of 1'500 visitors). Pascal Hahn published compilations on Universal and Muve and is accounted in Zurich as a DJ icon. The B-Side contains the first releases of Cyril Boehler''s new project Zwicker. His last project Tweak was responsible for clubhits like "Fathorn" (Straight Ahead Recordings) or remixes for Klein Records, Compost's Minus 8 and Stephan Eicher from Grauzone. He also and worked on productions with Tony Allen (drummer of Fela Kuti), Freeform Arkestra and Seelenluft. "Made Up" features the beautiful voice of Seelenluft-singer Olivera Stanimirov and some rockin' sounds which already define a high standard for Zwicker...You should also check out his release "Bearfunk" on Stevie Koteys Disco Label. |

Ups we did it again... The second release of Composts new club-orientated mini-series Black Label shifts gears up even darker. Coming equipped with 2 exclusive tracks from PC-Punker Martin Peter (Angora Steel) this 12inch simply rocks. After the release of his great album Enough Of This?! on Angora Steel and his works on Antipop and DJ Linus label Exun he didnt rest on his laurels but remembered his roots in the Munich elektro- und techno-szene, as he is Resident in Munichs hottest tech-house club Registratur. The A-Side track Bad Day with JJ can best be described as a bad-ass tech-house burner bearing some wicked rhythms, crazy basslines and dark vocals leaving the listener in an abulic state, dancing between this and the next dimension. The B-Side abandons the save haven of vocal-land and sails on the rough waters of pure electronic. Encountering strange (sound) waves and (bass-)creatures this journey sure will be weird. |

Compost goes wild... The first release on Composts new 12inch platform for club tunes, DJ tools and experimental grooves really starts things with a bang. With Trickski "Hormony" and Julius Kammerl "Erlangen Sued" it features two tracks designed to move any dancefloor. Trickskis mad tech-jazz excursion has already been played in the recent sets of Top-DJs like Jazzanova, Rainer Trüby and Peter Kruder, creating quite a buzz within the electric community. Famous for their foxy and new mixes and crazy, never-ending parties the Berlin-based DJ-team Daniel Becker (Compost/Helsinki) and Yannick Labbé (Cabinet/Compost) once again presents a groovy and innovative track which easily meets up with the high expectations coming with their reputation. By the way, Berlin-based Trickski are among the selectors of the second V.A. "I Like It" Vol 2 compilation (out summer 2005) and they have another top tune coming out on Sonar Kollektive late summer. We also look forward to the release of a Trickski remix for Alex Attias presents Mustang on his soon released 12inch 10,000 Leagues Deeper. The Munich-based DJ Julius Kammerl already earned a lot of respect with his Mettke (Beanfield) & Kammerl project or together with Benjamin Fröhlich (Play Records) and their Balestra Beats Crew. After his exclusive track on "Future Sounds Of Jazz" Vol. 9 his second track Erlangen Süd confirms his talent as a producer. When working for the Frauenhofer Institute in Erlangen he spent his spare time building his own synthesisers and developing new sounds. With this track he succeeds again in combining different styles and his very own sounds into a new aspect of club-music. A tricky mad one by the way, which will move any feet within acoustic range. |
