Info: Ende Juni – warme, sonnige Tage im Wechsel mit langen, lauen Nächten und der perfekte Zeitpunkt für die nächste Ausgabe der COMPOST BLACK LABEL SESSIONS. Mit WILLIE GRAFF haben wir einen DJ eingeladen, der den perfekten Soundtrack dazu abliefern wird. Der Ibizenko, der schon als Kind den Vibe balearisch gefärbter, elektronischer Musik aufsaugen konnte, hat im DC10 einen der heißbegehrten Redident Slots inne und steht dort regelmäßig bei den legendären Circoloco Nächten an den Decks. Doch damit nicht genug, auch bei Luciano’s Vagabundos Nächten im Pacha genießt der sympathisch-agile DJ höchstes Ansehen und ist mit seinem deep treibenden, vor stripped-down funkyness nur so strotzenden Style, einfach erste Wahl, um die Art von Clubnacht zum rauschen zu bringen die wir alle so lieben. Apropos Vagabundos – über die Wintermonate zieht es WILLIE GRAFF jedes Jahr nach New York, denn auch dort steht für ihn im Cielo eine Residency in einem der wichtigsten Clubs der Stadt zu Buche.

Genau so hochkarätig ließt sich dann auch die Discographie von WILLIE GRAFF. Seine Produktionen, die stets in Zusammenarbeit mit Tuccillo entstehen, kommen wohldosiert auf Vorzeigelabels wie Drumpoet Community, Circus Company oder Freerange und pulsieren auf den wichtigsten Dancefloors. Ob nun die Attraction EP, die im Herbst 2009 auf Platz 1 der Groove Charts stürmte oder die erst kürzlich bei Freerange erschienene Phonomontage EP – all Killer, no Filler! Zu einer runden Sache wird diese Nacht schließlich durch THOMAS HERB, der in seinen Sets den Funken immer wieder gekonnt überspringen lässt!

SHOW-B made some serious waves last year releasing EPs on the likes of POKERFLAT and DELUSIONS OF GRANDEUR (as PATTERN SELECT); while THOMAS HERB was in high demand as the resident DJ of the COMPOST BLACK LABEL SESSIONS club night in Munich. These talented hosts of the beloved COMPOST BLACK LABEL SESSIONS radio show combined their creative forces and recorded a mind-bending three tracker together.

ROSSO COSTIERA is an epic tune which builds and builds and leads you through a labyrinth of understated versatility while PARADISUS is a dubhouse moover reminiscent of a timeless style. Driven by a strong bassline, heavenly chords and a never-ending hypnotic vocal loop this one really lives up to its name. Last but not least our boys completed a useful stripped down cut of PARADISUS just to play around with: “The Grooveapella”

Following a background behind the scenes in the dance music industry, first in music PR then seven years working at UK online music store Juno Records, Jay Shepheard has gone on to build a reputation as one of the key figures in the new wave of electronic music.
Starting in back in 2007 with a string of EPs on Munich’s Compost Black Label Jay has gone on to release productions and remixes with a diverse range of influential labels including Buzzin Fly, Rebirth, Freerange and Diynamic. These releases have consistently achieved critical acclaim from DJs, music lovers and the press alike and earned him nominations for Best Deep House act of 2007 and Best Nu Disco act of 2009 in the Beatport Music Awards.
Alongside working with established labels Jay also launched his own boutique label Retrofit in February of 2010. Since the launch Retrofit has gone from strength to strength with reviews and features appearing on Resident Advisor, Dazed Digital, De:Bug, Juno Plus, DJ Mag, Pulse Radio and DJ History….and was picked as label to watch in 2011 on Beatportal. The label is now up to its seventh release just out in early 2012. As well as the press top Djs have also been in on the action, releases heavily supported by the likes of Seth Troxler, Prins Thomas, Ooft, The Revenge, Trevor Jackson, Tornado Wallace, Ben Watt, Pete Herbert, Jacques Renault, Social Disco Club and a ton of others….
Moving into 2012 with an RA podcast just released plans for the future Retrofit releases are under way with Jay Shepheard collaborations and remixes from artists like Iron Curtis, Catz N Dogz and Martin Dawson. Along side this there is also a return to his original label of Compost with a fresh Black label EP planned for early summer. With gigs across Europe coming up, U.S. and Australia tours planned and an album project on the horizon it’s shaping up to be a good year for Jay Shepheard!

Wenn Gilles Peterson am 24. Mai 2012 sein Album „Havana Cultura: The Search Continues“ vorstellt und den Herzschlag von Havannas Musikszene an die Isar bringt, dann ist das für die DJ Legende aus London auch eine Rückkehr zu den Wurzeln seiner ersten DJ Gigs. Die Münchener wiederum haben sein legendäres Set bei der „15 Jahre Compost Records“-Party 2009 noch in guter Erinnerung. Das kubanische Kulturprojekt Havana Cultura, das vom kubanischen Rumhersteller Havana Club unterstützt wird, präsentiert an diesem Abend mit DJ Gilles Peterson und dem Live-Act Vince Vella & Band feat. Osdalgia ein ganz besonderes Showcase. Vella ist einer der Schlüsselfiguren und Produzenten der “Havana Cultura”-Alben mit aktuellen Sounds aus der kubanischen Hauptstadt. Mit Osdalgia konnte man eines der größen Talente aus der brodelnden Szene Kubas für Havana Cultura gewinnen. Dazu stehen als Gastgeber neben Gilles Peterson seine langjährigen Freunde Michael Reinboth (Compost Records) und Rainer Trüby an den Turntables.

Havana Cultura
Seit 2007 steht die Leidenschaft und Lebensfreude des modernen Kuba im Rampenlicht des Kulturprojekts Havana Cultura, das vom kubanischen Rumhersteller Havana Club ins Leben gerufen wurde. Junge, aufstrebende Nachwuchstalente aus Havanna werden aktiv gefördert. Zeitgenössische Kunst und Kultur, die in der kubanischen Hauptstadt ihren Ursprung findet, erhält bei Havana Cultura eine internationale Bühne. Ob Musik, Tanz, Regie, Architektur oder bildende Kunst – Havana Cultura setzt der Kreativität keine Grenzen. Die Vielfalt steht im Vordergrund, denn sie spiegelt die Modernität und Einzigartigkeit des jungen Kuba wider. Auf der Havana Cultura Night sind es die authentischen Künstler, die als Botschafter kubanische Leidenschaft und Lebensphilosophie transportieren.

Ganz im Zeichen seiner langjährigen „Liebesbeziehung“ zu Kuba und der vielgestaltigen und reichhaltigen Musikszene der Insel hat der weitgereiste DJ/Musiklabel-Betreiber Gilles Peterson Ende letzten Jahres ein neues Kapitel in seiner Albumserie Havana Cultura herausgebracht. Neben einem originalen Studioalbum präsentiert er auf „Havana Cultura: The Search Continues“ auch eine perfekt zusammengestellte Kompilation neuer kubanischer Musiktalente.

“In den letzten 3 Jahren bin ich regelmäßig nach Havanna gereist – und deshalb natürlich enger verbunden mit dieser faszinierenden Stadt, die irgendwie nicht von dieser Welt zu sein scheint“, erzählt Gilles Peterson. „So langsam begreife ich auch, welche enorm tiefe Verbindung zwischen der Musik und den Menschen hier besteht.” Als Gilles 2011 erneut nach Havanna kam, stand für ihn fest, dass sich die neue Sammlung wieder zu einem Vorstoß ins Neue entwickeln sollte: „Ich wollte dabei den Charakter des ‚alles ist möglich‘ der ersten Session beibehalten, diesmal allerdings mit einem ausgereifteren ‚Kubanismus’.”, sagt Gilles Peterson abschließend.

Gilles Peterson
Gilles Peterson spürt seit über zwei Dekaden neue Trends auf und entdeckt frische Talente – als DJ, Labelbetreiber und Radiomoderator. Anfang der 90er war er für den Siegeszug von Acid Jazz verantwortlich. Auf seinem Label Talkin’ Loud bündelte er die innovativen Kräfte der britischen Clubkultur um 4hero, Roni Size und Incognito. The Roots, Erykah Badu und Jamiroquai verdanken ihm ihre ersten Erfolge in Europa. In seiner Sendung „Worldwide“ (BBC Radio 1) präsentierte Gilles Peterson seit 1998 neue Entdeckungen aus seinen Reisen nach Lateinamerika und Afrika. Sein Spektrum als DJ reicht von Afrobeat bis Dubstep und House.

Vince Vella & Band feat. Osdalgia – Havana Cultura Live

Produzent, DJ und Percussionist: Vince Vella hat auch das zweite Havana Cultura Album an der Seite von Gilles Peterson co-produziert. Seine Handschrift: große Arrangements, treibende Rhythmen, Jazzsensibilität und tropische Klänge. Die kubanische Sängerin Osdalgia entdeckte Vince Vella bei seinem letzten Trip nach Havana und gewann sie für Havana Cultura. Vella ist darüberhinaus ein renommierter Musiker in der Latin-Welt: Er spielte mit der Carlinho Brown Band und den Afro Cuban All Stars.

After the massive success of the album and the „Stand Up“ remixes, which went top 10 at Beatport, and was seen in dozens of DJ playlists, here comes the second remix package of Munich’s true disco entrepreneur. Alexander Maier’s remix is perhaps one of the best remixes we can offer in the first half of 2012, already recommended as remix of the year by Penner & Muder (Mood Music). The whole Compost team loves this remix, too! Ideosyncratic slinky deep house at its best! Alexander Maier (DJ Allstar) has releases on Buzzin Fly, Moodmusic, BlueFin, Exun or Criminal Records, or remixes made for Mugwump, Ben Watt, Kruse & Nürnberg, Martin Eyerer and others.

Jamie Lidell (one half of Super Collider, Warp) liked Pitchben’s music aswell and delivered a wonderful peaceful lovers midtempi remix. So good, near sheer bliss. Also electro house funk don Lorenz Rhode performed magic – a true winning club tune full of wirly spiritedness. This should work well on (m)any floors. Last but not least Krazy Baldhead (Ed Banger) who just has released his debut album, donates us a typical Krazy tech-disco banger, which makes bang bang boom and completes the substantial package, but don’t be easy as pie, there is a long version of Alexander Maier’s remix as digi bonus.

Watch out, Pitchben performs LIVE with bassplayer, DJ, vocalist. It’s great fun.
